You've probably noticed I don't really use this portal anymore but just incase you do I thought I would update you with some new goings on.
1. I now have my own personal URL where all my webstuff is contained in one place
smallcolin.com
2. I also have a Tumblr page (which I use basically to report on my sound cloud activity)
Small Colin @ Tumblr
3. My main place for news now is on Twitter. Profile page below:-

Bandcamp, Soundcloud & Onesheet
I now have an account at bandcamp.com and I will be using it only to have older songs & early versions of already released tracks. All of the music will be free to download so go check it out now
http://smallcolin.bandcamp.com/
My soundcloud page has also been updated with a couple of tracks
Small Colin @ Soundcloud
I've also set-up a profile at one sheet.com that basically is a page that links to all Small Colin related sites online. There you can listen to music (via soundcloud), read my Twitter feed, read this blog & entrys from my Facebook page and check out any vids I've uploaded to Vimeo. There is also links to buy my first ep on iTunes.
I think its a great idea to have everything in the one place as it saves having to keep loads of different bookmarks for several sites. Here is the link for it:-

Retro Masters
As you might have guessed by the non-happenings here i now post nearly all of Small Colin news on Facebook. The reason for this mainly is i'm not sure how many people check in on this blog whilst on FB I know of at least 100 odd people that see every entry.
Never-the-less, i'm posting now just in case anyone reading doesn't know about the release of my new ep.
I have 5 new tracks available for a free download from the awesome net-label rec72. The songs are actually all recorded between 2006-2011 hence the title. The cover also plays in with naming as it features an old toy.
Here is a direct link to the dowload page:-
Retro Masters
And the cover:-
All tracks were mastered by Peter over at Sound29. I am very pleased with the results so will definitely be using his services in future. I would recommend you do this also.
Sound29
One of the tracks features the beautiful vocals of a german girl called Julika Poly. You should check out her music here:-
http://www.polymusicworld.com
As always I would love to hear your opinion on the music so don't hesitate to leave a comment
Till the next time
Cheers

Hey feeling bored just before Xmas? Have a read of the review of Le Migre #2 over at

Nice. My favourite part, "This modern day "wall of sound" is a delightful addition to the albums on my iPhone and one that I would heartily recommend."
Merry Christmas to one & all from within the Small Colin family. xxx

………on a new Creative Commons compliation entitled, well, "Creative Commons Compilation 2010". The album has been complied by a German guy (I think). And as you've probably guessed all the stuff on the record has been released under the Creative Commons License.

2 Days to go…
Yes, people its almost that time. Le Migre #2 will released on the netlabel Rec72 on Thursday the 7th October.
As a little taster here's a link to the promo clip for the track "Excellenti"

Hope you enjoy! (btw Cheers to akustikfilm for the visuals!)

ps if anyone was waiting for the review I promised on the Novation Launchpad, I'm sorry, its not going to come I'm afraid. I've had far too many other commitments so unfortunately you'll just have to find a review elsewhere. Never-the-less, its definitely worth purchasing though. I can honestly that my use of Ableton Live has gone up at least 1000% percent because of it.

Short Post
Just a short one today to mention the fact that I got the masters for Le Migre #2 last night. Scott has done a wicked job. The tracks sound great. Actually no, they sound really great!!! I'm sure you will love them too
As it looks the Ep will be available in September for free download from Rec72. Details will follow on this.
Oh yeah, I'm still working on the review of the Novation Launchpad. I promise it will be posted soon.

Another Day…Another Purchase
Today I took the plunge and purchased my first ever full copy of Ableton Live. Live 8.14 to be precise.
I've been using lite versions of the software since Live 2 and kind of drifted in and out of using it as a studio tool since then. Although strangely enough, I have actually always used it when playing live as its entirely more reliable than Cubase, Logic or Reason in my opinion. Anyways, after the purchase of my Launchpad the other day it kind of made sense to upgrade my software at the same time.
For those of you that already use Ableton in your set-up I really don't need to tell you how good it is. But for those that don't………Get it. Get it now!!!
Read up a little on it here:- Ableton Live
Today I managed to create four completely new tracks that are maybe, 80% complete already & I finally managed to do a re-take on my earlier (much-loved) track, We Are Denied. I'll be uploading some of these tracks onto Soundcloud when they're done & as a token of thanks to all the people who have supported me with my music the "We have denied" re-take will be available for a free download.
Oh yeah, the review of the Launchpad is coming. I've just been too busy actually using the device to write anything here. I will say this though, combined with Live the Launchpad is almost perfect.
Here's to happy music-making.

Novation Launchpad
After a short while pondering whether or not I actually needed one of these (fairly) new-on-the-market midi controllers I finally decided to order one last week. It came in the post today! So far…it is absolutely amazing!!! Its so simple to use and fast too. I've only managed to play around with for a few hours but when I've properly investigated it I'll post a review type thing up here. Keep looking in for that.
In the meantime here is a direct link to a page where you can read Novation's own opinion.

Bye for now

Dans & Elektronika Live Set
I've just now uploaded a live set from 2 years ago onto Soundcloud. It was performed for a theatre show in Jönköping. Listen
I found it this morning on a disc and thought people might be interested in hearing it. You might notice it is a bit messy with volume levels & stuff but rather than fixing everything I wanted to present it as it sounded that night. Hope you enjoy it.

Lots of Info…
Hi
I have a lot of stuff happening right now that I felt I should inform you all of. What with being on vacation at the moment, I've been able to get back to not only writing music but also updating my various online profile pages. Lets get to it…
SOUNDCLOUD
Today I uploaded another track to my page on soundcloud. This time its a track you may be familar with. "We Have Denied" featured on my "…Is An Athlete" ep from 2007 on the Electroreptil net-label. It is probably my favourite song (that i have written) and others seem to like it too. Btw you can still purchase the ep on iTunes. It has that track & 4 others as well.
Another couple of points on Soundcloud. The first being, you can now download a few of tracks to your computer for offline listening. The second point is, I have added a dropbox widget to my blog. So now, if you want, you can send me a track (or two). Just click on the box and upload your song & I'll give it a good listen.
SMALL RADIO
All four of the songs for the second ep have now left my hands for the last time. Scott is currently mastering them & after a final check we will ship them onto Marco @ Rec72 for a September release. It feels strange to have them done & dusted but hey, onward to the next project.
Speaking of the next project, I'm currently working on my next Small Colin ep. It will more than likely include a few tracks that have been lying around since "…is an athlete" and a few new ones. Its been too long since the world heard some of my solo stuff I think…… Information will come when its ready to (as always)

A new look also
You might have noticed I changed the look of my blog also? I was gettting bored of the white so decided to use a more classy beige colour scheme. Opinions?
Also keep checking in on my Soundcloud page for older Small Colin tracks. I'll be uploading a few more today so feel free to have a listen to how I sounded in the past.

KRK Rokit RP-5 G2
By the title of my post you may be able to tell what I have just obtained for my studio… if not, they are the name of my brand new nearfield monitors (loudspeakers to everyone else).

What can I say about them? I know, they are absolutely amazing!!! So far today I've been trying out all the genres I could imagine & they are killing every single one. The sound is both crisp & clean whilst the bass is booming just the way it should. This applies to all volume levels by the way. I honestly can't believe I went so long on just a normal set of (albiet good quality) stereo speakers.
For now i've got them lined up along side my older speakers so I can break myself into learning their qualities rather than just going directly over to them. The main reason being I know the old ones so well now that I can use them to help me adjust to the KRK's. My thoughts are to eventually get rid of the older pair but we'll see how that goes. I might just hold onto them as the set-up looks pretty great with both units in place. Judge for yourself in some of the pics below

I'm really looking forward to working on some of my own material with these monitors now (as you can imagine). As always, I'll post some details when I'm happy with something & its ready to share.
Keep listening!

Soundcloud
I finally got around to setting a page up on Soundcloud after many months/years of essentially being stubborn. Get yourself over there to check out some (mainly) older tracks of mine from a few years back. And please, feel free to leave any comments on the tracks.
Small Colin @ Soundcloud
While I'm here I can give you an update on the forthcoming Small Radio ep. I'm currently adding the absolute final touches on the four tracks. Then I'll send them onto Scott and he'll master them. Then around August the ep will be released for public consumption. (I know I previously said it would be in June but due to yours truly just having a baby the project has been pushed back slightly.)
Hope everyone is well & enjoying the sunshine. Have a great summer!

And again with the laziness.
4 months since my last post. What can I say about that? nothing really if I'm honest. I'm lazy!
Anyways lets get to the important stuff. Small Colin news…
I haven't really been working on my own stuff at all recently. There are some songs nearly finished & some some sketches of tracks sitting ready to be explored. I will get around to them some time but not now.
The reason for the lack of Small Colin material is mainly due to the fact that myself & Scott have been working fairly intensely of the follow up to Le Migre. We have four tracks that are 90% complete. ie at the final mixdown & mastering stage. The titles of the tracks are:-
1. Leaf Shaped Feelings
2. Excellenti
3. Blakt In The Darq
4. Jefternet
The title of the ep shall be "Le Migre #2". Also Kourtney Demaine has again provided some awesome artwork which we are over the moon about. The release date hasn't been finalised but at the moment it looks like it will be some time in June. Keep an eye out for it.
Other news for me is I will also be becoming a dad in June so I'm in for a busy summer. Hopefully a good one though.
Until next time…
